StarTropics is a Nintendo Entertainment System game and the first game in the StarTropics series. It is succeeded by Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II.

Gameplay

StarTropics is an action-adventure game featuring Mike Jones, on a journey to visit his uncle and archaeologist Dr. Steven Jones at a fictional island in the South Seas, known as C-Island. After arriving at his house and finding out that he's gone missing, Mike Jones sets off to find him, armed with a yo-yo (star in the Virtal Console version) and Dr. Jones' robot the Nav-Com.

The gameplay features exploration from a top-down perspective and caves in which the player must solve puzzles and defeat enemies.[1]
