Post any updates/ discussion you have on Generation V.
Well recently the first 2 Pokemon of the new generation have been revealed.
Zorua & Zoroark
http://www.vooks.net/story-18909-Zorua-and-Zoroark-make-their-official-debut.html
Zorua the small one and Zoroark the bigger one.
I will be choosing the Fire-type starter, no worries there.
Unless they do away with the standard starter trio. Then... fffff, I'll take whatever #497 is.

Ha, I have to see the picture of the Pokemon first.
As far as I know, generation 5 will include the following:
- Three starter Pokemon (Water, Fire, Grass) will be available as the players first Pokemon.
- A rodent normal type and a bird flying/normal that annoy you to no end.
- A handful of version exclusive Pokemon, including the duo that will represent the versions.
- A 10 year old boy or loli will be available at the beginning.
- A professor that doesn't know your gender or name.
- A villainous team with 80's hair.
- 8 gym leaders (I hope for a Dark type gym leader).
- Zubat, Geodude, Magikarp, Goldeen, Abra etc.

Fix'd
Fix'd my little typo. :P
I hope that this Generation is as good as the others (It should right?) But this time I will either choose the water or grass choice depending who will be the 1st Gym Leader and its type. But I'm excited for what they will have in store for this Generation.

Tradition. I always start with Fire. Only twice have I not, in Pt and JpSS, but that's only because I started with Fire in D and EnHG.
I always choose the coolest looking starter.
And I'm really looking forward to Zoroark.
I'll probably choose Water, as usual !
fire type starters usually get the advantage in the beginning of the game, such as charmander getting metal claw, and the third and fourth gen starters evolving into fighting types to destroy the rock gym

Ha, right? lol. Blastoise/Charizard. Typholsion. Sceptile/Blaziken. Torterra.
Awww.
Zorua is cuuute.
I think this generation will be a disappointment to me just like Gen IV was.
:/
As long as they have up to 6 cool Pokemon I think I'll manage :P
I'm wondering what the new games will be called.
I'm thinking it might be something between light and dark, or something to do with illusions possibly. But who knows.
Gary Oak should be the Pokémon Professor! Ha! That'd be funny! :D
Especially how he went all "scientist" in the anime too, even though the games are HARDLY linked to the anime at all...

You'd think they would start running out of stones and minerals, eh?
I agree. Light and dark scheme for these games would be a great way to introduce a new type, too. *cough* light-type *cough*
I really am confident these new games... will have the names "Light" for one version and "Darkness" for the other, with Zoroark as the mascot for Darkness and perhaps a sexy looking angelic like Pokémon as the mascot for "Light".
I bet that's how it's gonna happen! ;D
"Shadow" would be a better name IMO.
Good point, we don't want people getting confused with Mystery Dungeon :P
I really want a Light type. If there's a Dark type there should be a Light type too IMO.
People have wanted "Light Type" for ages now...
Before I started playing the games, I always thought Wigglytuff was a Light type even though that type didn't exist... so yeah. There may be a Light type for the next one.

I don't see what makes you think of wigglytuff as light, i'd put arceus as light type rather than normal.
We don't need a Light type.
Dark already has an opposite, it's called Fighting.
And I'm hoping that the starters are Grass/Dark, Fire/Psychic, and Water/Fighting in their final forms.

I was six years old and had no idea what was going on. I didn't even know what all the types were back then :P
But hey, I'm 13 now, I know what's going on now! LOL!
I think a Light type would be ok I guess, but slightly pointless though.

I think it would be 100% pointless.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this (I'm sorry ionly got through some of the replies) but I hear rumors that the Pokémon team has their hands on a "DS2". Sounds good to me :)
Torchic, possibly Chikorita.

Fire/Psychic. A Pyrotechno Pokémon. So unique. It sounds cool to me.

Since when was Fighting the opposite of Dark? How the hell does that even work? Fighting's the "counterpart" to Psychic, the most Physical as Psychic's the most Special. Dark's the counterbalance to Psychic... meaning Dark and Fighting are on the same side.

That is some good logic you have there (seriously)
I really just want the Fire starter to end up being something other than pure fire (Typhlosion except based on another animal) or fire/fighting (Blaziken except not a chicken or a monkey)at it's final form.
About that Fire Psychic thing, that would probably end up being amazingly overpowered.
I still have yet to understand how most type weaknesses even work, such as Fighting > Dark and Bug > Dark

Quote from: TVTropesThe Dark Type is characterized by attacks that involve fighting very dirty in order to win, to the point where some of the moves seem to constitute outright cheating. Some options from the Dark Type movepool include: false crying (Fake Tears), slugging the opponent as they ready an attack (Sucker Punch), beating up an already hurt opponent (Assurance), throwing foreign objects (Fling), denying the opponent use of their held item (Embargo), stealing the opponent's item (Thief), hitting an opponent hard as they try to retreat (Pursuit), and calling on the other Pokémon on your team to beat up on the opponent (Beat Up).
* Croagunk and Toxicroak are noted for being combat pragmatists, but strictly for survival.
* This is exactly why they're weak to Fighting-types, and why there won't be any Light-type any time soon; it's Dark as in "Darker And Edgier", not Dark as in "darkness vs. light/holy". Dark-types rely on trickery, the Fighting-type is based on martial arts combat, and hence they have honor - the exact opposite of the Dark-type tactic.
Exactly what the above post says. The Dark type has nothing to do with darkness. It's just a sinister type. Look at some of the moves: Thief, Sucker Punch, etc. Basically it's like Fighting types are the heroes and Dark types are the villains.
that may explain why psychic wont affect dARK, since mental powers wont affect villains, and stuff like psychological warfare, and villains having no conscience.

this, more than likely there wont be a light type because it would have been introduced along with dark, which was only brought in to balance out the overpowered psychic type along with steel, which is not affected by dark very much so there really isnt a need to create a new type, though it would be interesting to see what they would with a light type
If they were to introduce a light type, they'd probably have to introduce an opposite for it, such as something along the lines for "Shadow."
Technically, there is already a Shadow-type (Aka the Dark type).
Shadow type = Ghost type.
as Zoroark stated shadow is ghost (shadow ball anyone?), Dark doesn't really associate with shadows as much as ghost.
At this point in time, I have absolutely NO idea what to expect with the legendaries, titles, etc. So I can't wait to see something stupid pop up. :|

It will be stupid, they've already pulled out the pokemon god, so unless they retcon Generation IV, there's practically no room for creativity to create a legend (or sets of them) on par with what Gen IV had, as they pretty much introduced the pokemon who created the Pokemon Universe.
well they dont neccesarily have to make it that the legendary has some kind of connection to a form of creation,, they could make it that they are rarely ever seen like the legendary birds and beasts
Is there actually any proof that Arceus is god? I always assumed that that was simply a legend in Sinnoh.
well the sinnoh legend stated that arceus created the Universe so, that kinda gives us the assumption that he is, but they could always say "yo the where other pokemon gods"
Arceus is not "it" any more than Mewtwo was. They can make stuff just as powerful as far as base stats go even if they don't have the same sort of mythology. After all, were Lugia, Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina created by enhanced cloning?
Quote from: Zoroark on February 20, 2010, 04:13:45 PM
Shadow type = Ghost type.
I thought about that, too. I guess it could count, but if that counts, why is everyone complaining that a light type would be pointless if it actually has a parallel type?
Level 3: The reason I don't count Ghost as a "Shadow" type based off the fact that it has a "Shadow" Ball move. If that were the case, we'd be calling grass or fire the "Light" type: Solar Beam, Sunny Day.
Something that they won't do... but would be truly quite amazing if they did...
Fighting, Dark, and Psychic starters!! Or some other elemental triangle than fire, water, and grass. It may break tradition... but Pokémon is starting to become monotonous as time progresses...
that would be awsome if they did do Fighting, Psychic, Dark Starters, it could happen but it more than likely wont happen,
it's probably not going to happen, as "not very effective" is more early game friendly than "no effect at all". This is good for beginners, as the later may catch them off-guard.
Grass, fire and water have plenty of "not very effective", but none of them have "no effect at all", making them excellent beginners. Then addin stats, moves and other things as the game progresses, the "no effect at all" of ground, flying, ghost and normal becomes better favored as the mid-game enters approaches, and then the end game is more about the players preference than either of the two talked about here.
How about Ground/Flying/Rock?
let;s see
(> mean increased damage, < means decreased damage)
ground >rock
rock > flying
but flying is neutral to ground
next:
rock < ground
flying < rock
ground does no damage to flying, and each starter must do less damage to one and more to another type.
On a different note, what could they call the games? They're running out of precious stones/metals. If it is something to do with darkness, like everyone's suggesting, maybe Obsidian?

Sun and Moon?
I would like an Amethyst named game :P And maybe....Quartz
Amethyst and Quartz.
I like those because they actually ARE minerals.... (Pearl is not a mineral, but it is a gemstone, so that makes it okay)
Let's just hope that they aren't named after random crap like "Rising Darkness" and "Glowing Light"....
I hope they continue the tradition of color/metal/gemstone names (interesting transition...)

I was thinking Opal and Quartz, and then Amethyst would be a good name for the 3rd version.
Alternatively, they could just go back to good old colours and make Pokemon Purple, Orange and Brown.
maybe the titles will be revealed in the may issue of coro coro ???
sry for the double post but official gen 5 names are Black and White
Ahhh, back to colors. Reminds me of Gen I. *pauses to speculate* Didn't Tajiri say that "everything will be made anew"? I wonder if this could be an example...

Seems true enough from what we can see in the pictures: it looks to me like they're finally giving us some believably big cities and towns. Just look at the space between buildings in the starting town screenshot over on Serebii! Either that's a pretty empty place or it's a lot bigger than good ol' Pallet Town. That and the size of the buildings in the big city make me believe that the overworld is gonna be a lot bigger and better. http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/pics.shtml (http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/pics.shtml)
so it looks like they are going to maximize the capabilities of the DS wow it looks like they are goin all out on this one
I'm hoping for more Rock type moves, Rock Slide is the most useful at 75 attack

I'm not surprised. D/P/Pt felt more like experiments than actual games. HG/SS was a little better, but I can think of
alot of ways they could have done it better. Now they know what they can do, so they're going to do all they can.
I'm just surprised they don't want it on the 3DS. If it's done enough to have at E3, than why don't they wait until it comes out?
a bunch of new Pokémon, love the Dark/Ground Crocodile and the Gear one, also Electric Zebra
The gear one and crocodile are definitely my faves while the chinchilla and monkey are me least faves.
