We'd need to have an actual problem with MediaWiki in order to leave it. Just "it might be better" is not sufficient.

It has a bit of a learning curve and might be overkill for text searching, but it can handle the whole SSBM disc at once so filesize shouldn't be a problem.

WiKirby is only slightly better right now; more pages work (including Special:Export) but it's not 100%. We don't know why.

As of today, several of WiKirby's pages have been hit by a database error that renders them unrenderable, including Special:RecentChanges and Special:UserLogin.

The only person who has WiKirby server access, known as Adam, has been ridiculously xenophobic for several months and has not responded to any questions or concerns in a long time (despite having previously promised to give access to other, active, people). WiKirby's only chance at getting out of this ruined state is to get him to fix the problem and give someone else server access.

So, I'm rounding up the troops. I want everyone who cares about NIWA and WiKirby to send an e-mail to Adam via the EmailUser feature on Zelda Wiki (see his talkpage here) or the e-mail feature of the NIWA forums (see his user profile here). (If anyone knows of other ways to contact him, use those as well, and maybe post them here for others to use - but don't post his raw e-mail address or other such information here.) Tell him that you're from NIWA (specify a member wiki if you wish) and that you're disappointed that he's been ignoring his duties as a webmaster for a fellow NIWA wiki. Tell him that, at the absolute least, he should immediately give someone else server access so WiKirby can survive without him. Be polite and respectful, but make it very clear that his continuing absence and aloofness is not acceptable.

Spread this message across the rest of NIWA. We're not having a wiki fall apart because of one person's absence.

I think the better question is: "Was NintendoWiki ever alive?" While I never looked for one, I have never seen an edit by someone who wasn't a staff member on some NIWA wiki. If a wiki never gets edits from non-staff, it's at least "stale" and at most "desperately pushed for a reason to exist".

I think it's more like everyone noticed, but the bumps had no content important enough to warrant replies.

SmashWiki is currently running in Green mode, with a constant and healthy supply of edits and nothing exceptionally urgent to accomplish. Most edits are minor corrections with the odd move and several split/merge discussions (both active and stale); we're also getting new accounts at approximately 1.2 per day and have a reasonably active IRC channel. We currently (as of this post) have about 1,150 "things to do", a number generated by things like cleanup and stub tags which is broadcast across the main page and recent changes.

Aside from content, things like new policies and simplification templates have been popping up pseudo-regularly, mostly in an attempt to get better hatch-batteners for when the inevitable will occur in the next year and the wiki will (for the first time ever in the "modern era") have to deal with a new game and all the shenanigans such brings.

We do seem to have a bit of community stagnation and fragmentation though. There's a pretty big gap between "the old hands who have a clue", "the new guys who have a clue", and "the riffraff", with the groups generally never interacting beyond "oi you broke-a da rules". Some people also think we have few if any potential new staff candidates, which will certainly be a problem if we experience explosive growth in the future, but is currently mostly a non-issue.

So overall SmashWiki is in good shape for the present, with a hopefully-distant uncertain future.

While there's an English version of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl website, the SSB64 and Melee websites are only available in Japanese, and from the bits and pieces that can be decoded with auto-translates there's some good info hidden there. SmashWiki is drafting a project to have these sites translated. If you haev an idea, or you're interested in helping, then we'd like some help.

That's not the reason to cut the links; you cut the links because once you're out of Wikia's interwiki system they don't work anymore and WantedPages becomes a mess. You could always make new interwiki links, but the links would have to be changed anyway, so in any case all of them would have to be edited.

A suggestion for Bulbapedia, a search for finding Pokémon that learn certain moves, for example, I want a Pokémon that can learn both Bite and Tackle, you put them in and it will list all Pokémon that can learn both moves.

That's not really possible for a wiki as I understand it. I think you want this site.

I'm not particularily interested in this, but I'll throw in some possible names.

I dislike this idea mostly because it causes confusion for the reader/new editor. You've just started to get used to editing pages and then you come across one that has nothing but "take page from this wiki", so to edit the page you have to go to that wiki, make an account, and edit it there. And the change only shows up in the history of the second wiki, not the first, so it'd be invisible in RecentChanges on the first wiki and therefore place more strain on the second wiki to contain vandalism (though presumably only protected pages would have this done to them). Not very user-friendly.

It can also confuse readers if they see the same page on two different wikis and try to raise the plagarism alarm, or they suggest a change and are responded with "we can't do that, ask over here".
