Mr Squiggle

Should Mewtwo get a new Forme, as rumors and supposedly leaked magazine scans indicate?
#2
Never. It is still covered in cobwebs.

Could you pass the duster?
#3
Because it affects my tumbleweed farming plans.

Why is The Lounge full of KidIcarus's posts?

Yes and the same is true for most wikis. Technically anyone can fork any wiki into their own version - even if they don't own or contribute to it.
From a technical perspective yes, but not from a legal one. For example, if you were to create a Bulbapedia wiki on Wikia (this has happened before btw), it would be a violation of Bulbapedia's license. Bulbapedia's content cannot be used for commercial purposes (while Wikia is a commerical purpose as per their license) and requires attribution if reproduced.

^Didn't get the answer to my question right, so I'm going to leave it in play

The answer to that question is Poliwhirl though.

Why did KidIcarus refuse the answer my question?

KidIcarus refuses to give him money, so Hamburgler comes back later that night and burgles him.

I understand the logic behind it, but it does sacrifice a major element of wikis. Is it worth the sacrifice. It seems I'm on the fence on this issue.
Do you mean locking page creation from new users? I don't think it really is; they are still free to edit existing pages while they are new, and once they've gotten used to the wiki they can start creating pages. It both prevents spambots and prevents terrible pages being created.

The purpose of NIWA is to make a network of wikis on individual Nintendo topics, rather than one messy wiki with everything, disambiguations every, constant notability issues due to the sheer size, and a difficulty to manage. Also, people tend to prefer information from a dedicated source rather than a mass collection. (e.g. Do you go to Wikipedia or Mario Wiki for information on Mario games?)

NIWA allows us to have independently managed wikis linked together to form a network of Nintendo information.

It's alphabetical, which is probably the fairest method (we could do join order though I guess).

Also, Bulbapedia is clearly the Greatest of All Time :P (not biased at all)

I hope i'm not breaking any rules in bumping this thread (i don't mean to break the rules), but... the url for starfoxwiki.org now points to godaddy... is it safe (and correct) to assume that it won't be coming back at all?  if so, what will fill in the Lylat Wiki's void in the NIWA collection of websites?  Arwingpedia (over at wikia)?
I don't think Arwingepedia would want to move to NIWA
Arwingpedia already has. They were merged into Lylat Wiki. See here.

The issue with Wikia is you can never truly leave, only "fork", as Wikia likes to view it. So while all of the content has been moved, the original Wikia stays.

NIWA Discussion / Re: A suggestion about Bulbapedia
September 08, 2012, 04:14:24 AM
Bulbapedia actually has its own forum on the Bulbagarden forums here, so in future taking your suggestions there will get a faster response.

We have actually tried implementing cries before ages ago; however, it caused the server to crash, and we are hesitant to try and implement them again.

I'm curious how big wikis like Mario and Bulbapedia combat spam.
We have page creation restricted to Autoconfirmed users. We don't get a whole lot of advertising spammers, and the ones we do are usually blocked pretty quickly. Most spammers we get are just idiot vandals posting inane things on existing articles, and they go quickly as well. Of course, the administrator to spam ratio is probably larger on large wikis compared to small wikis, so the two extensions mentioned above are probably helpful for small wikis.
Pretty much the same applies for Bulbapedia; page creation restricted to auto-confirmed, lots of active admins.

Probably not the best measure of Bulbapedia's admins. I assume it only counts users in the sysop group, which is just the Administrator rank (see here for BP's staff structure).

Unfortunately, I don't see a better way to do it. Is there some way (perhaps just by giving all staff usergroups a "staff member" user right that has no other purpose than as a flag) that this could be worked around?

The life of the forums as a whole impacts on the life of the threads in it.

What do you mean tumbleweeds don't have fur!?
#18
Movie and TV sets. The companies pay huge amounts of money for them too.

Some people farm them for their fur. Is that immoral?

Farming tumbleweeds

Would you like to help me on my tumbleweed farm?

The "This image has been moved or deleted -photobucket" rather than an actual logo, as well as pretty much ever other image being broken, makes things rather depressing.

Why are there more tumbleweeds than users on the NIWA forums?
