I will agree that Chimchar line is uncreative.

They just took the Torchic line, turned them into monkeys, and gave them better stats.

Chimchar sucks and so do all it's evolutions. Chikorita is a close second!

Emerald Yoshi

For me here's how it is:
Gen 1: the are all awesome
Gen 2: chikorita was pretty bad in the beginning of G/S/C but was better later on.
Gen 3: nothing bad happened no matter. Tate& Liza were very easy with Blaziken. AND WHOEVER DOES NOT LIKE THE MUDKIPS GET A BEATING.

Gen 4: they all suck

THESE ARE ONLY MY PERSONAL VIEWS!
Also known as:
Sapphire Mudkip
PK Mudkip
Pancakes
Yoshiforce
BlueYoshi199X
FireryredNess

As much as I loved Charmander,
he wasn't very good starting out.
I think because of the gym orders back then.

Which made it even more awesome, it provided a true challenge no other starter gives you now that fire starters receive fighting type evolutions to have an advantage against the first leader. IMO the worst would be Treecko.

Ah yeah good point. xD
Hi~ <3

Level 3

I used to hate Bulbasaur before realizing it was awesome.

Mudkip is cool as it is, but the evos aren't that well made.

My least favorite overall would have to be chikorita.

if its based on opinoon I kinda didnt like Chickorita mainly because it has weakness to the first two gym leaders

I HATE Totodile.
Yes, it wasn't as bad as Chikorita if you wanted an easy time, but I don't care about weaknesses against Gym Leaders (all the Gyms are easy anyway, especially in Johto...except that freaking Whitney and her Miltank). I usually chose the Pokemon that would be weak against the first few gyms without even knowing it. Piplup, for example, has become my favorite starter, despite being the "hard mode" of Sinnoh. It's good against the first gym, but has a hard time with the next few gyms. Although I guess Chimchar is also hard to use at the  very start of Sinnoh. I just can't stand Totodile. Chimchar is another Pokemon I can't stand (well, mostly Monferno and Infernape, it's evolutions, those overused imps).

Wait, Piplup was a bad choice?

I thought I just sucked. ;_;

It could be that you do suck!  Just kidding
But yeah, Piplup was a "bad" choice if one wanted to have overall good match ups at the start of their journey. Later on though, Empolean has many resistances and an immunity (I believe). Plus, Piplup looks awesome (not that ugly Prinlup though :P) And Empolean looks even more awesome ^^

Ell Oh Ell

That's the only reason I picked it, Piplup didn't look fucking weird.

When I have the choice between a penguin, a goddamn tree, and a flaming monkey (I see what you did thar Nintendo) I'm going for the bird in the tuxedo.

Haha, funny post. Although I thought Turwig was okay, still weird, but okay looking.><

I'm confused though, what exactly did Nintendo do? >>
I'm a little tired and don't get it,  :eekdance:

Ell Oh Ell

Flaming monkey = Gay person according to Nintendo.

Nintendo is comprised of homophobic terrorists.

o.O
But yeah, main thing: Infernape is baaaad  ;D

I will narrow this down to the difficulty in making a decision on the starter:

Generation I - Very Difficult (6/9)
Two of the Generation I starters were truly quite amazing... it is almost impossible to choose between Charmander and Squirtle... even though I am a fan of Charmander... Bulbasaur gets a... Meh...

With regard to Yellow Version... Pikachu is so overused that I don't really have superbly strong feelings in that respect. Blasted Rival and stealing the Eevee you should have gotten from Professor Oak...

Generation II - Somewhat Difficult (4/9)
Cyndaquil is rather weak early on... but Quilava and Typhlosion make the journey worthwhile... whereas Totodile is the opposite. Chikorita is not even an option for me... Another fail on Nintendo's part with regard to the grass starter.

Generation III - Rather Simple (8/9)
Treecko made up for the lacking in awesomeness on the part of its grass predecessors, and is my immediate choice. The other two were really quite well done as well... but none compare to my fetish for Fawkesian masks and Grovyle.

Generation IV - Impossible (0/9)
I hated all of the Generation IV starters... Turtwig was a meh... Piplup was a meh... and Chimchar was a FRAWRK!!! The games made up for it with some of the legendaries and Lucario... but the starters are "breath-taking."

All in all I guess you could say Generation III was my favorite... and Generation IV makes me feel mentally unstable inside...

But the reason Nintendo made some starters hard to use was to make the games slightly more diverse. It is really as simple as catching a Pokemon that covers your starter's weaknesses. I don't know, but I find the games all easy, even as I chose Squirtle, Chikorita, Mudkip and Piplup respectively.

You'd think he would be overused since he's the only available one.

Also, I added Pikachu to the poll; he was missing.

I more meant the overused respect in terms that random number 25 is the mascot... main Pokémon character in the anime... etc.
?????

Candar

I found Treecko real boring, nothing going on with him.
also, am I the only one who thought Quilava was way cooler than Typhlosion?

Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot, but the anime made Pikachu so popular (Pikachu IS cute in the anime) so they changed the mascot to Pikachu.
Due to this fame, Pikachu is portrayed as WAY stronger then he is in the Anime and sometimes even the Pokemon Adventures manga. I personally wished Mew was the mascot >< He was also a contender to be the mascot, I believe, since he WAS the first patented Pokemon (before the games even came close to being released o.O)
