Adventure Mode: What could improve it

We've all played through the Subspace Emissary and had fun with it, right? I did too, but unfortunate as it may be, it seemed to be lacking in a lot of areas. Granted, it was a very good first step in that right direction (in terms of bringing all these characters together for a story setting), but it was only a baby step. Personally, I feel that the only redeeming factor of this mode was the cutscenes, but even that could have done a lot better. So as good as this adventure mode was at first, here's to what could make it better next time:

Rule #1: NO. SUBSPACE. GARBAGE.
Honestly? Abominations that look like they belong in their own dang series? Way to shaft other Nintendo enemy characters that could have been. Is it really too much to ask for the biggest Nintendo villains around (Bowser, Ganondorf, Medusa, King K. Rool, and other enemy forces from different series, Space Pirates from Metroid, etc etc....Eh, Bowser may turn good at some point later into it) to come together to bring the world down using all their resources without all that made-up Tabuu junk and stuff getting in the way? If anything, Master Hand and Crazy Hand should be the only Smash-exclusive elements to it.

The world map. So could have been some sort of artificial Nintendo World with the most notable locales of each series plastered throughout (Peach's Castle, DK Island, Hyrule's kingdom, etc etc), but SSE just had to waste that on a dry, generic-looking place. This is one thing where I liked Melee's adventure mode better.
There could be a few simple places thrown in; if they are generic (city, plain, etc.), they should be provided with that gritty Nintendo feel and refer to some series (a lot of them for the price of one simple place). For instance, if there's a nondescript volcano somewhere in there, it could be populated by Gorons (Zelda) and whatever-other-fiery/rocky-species-from-another-series. It gives that versatile flavor that it should have.

More supporting characters or NPCs. C'mon, one or two that barely made a difference in SSE? Think of it this way: the main characters are essentially the peak of a mountain, and the supporting cast would make up the base of the mountain. And if you've got too scarce an amount of supporting characters, that's no good for that mountain, being all peak! Not cool!
Now there would be many of these NPCs to pick out from several Nintendo series, each with varying roles in another SSB adventure mode's story. Could be either worked into gameplay (with certain tasks that they may ask of you to fulfill) or cutscenes devices. Some could be some sort of shopkeepers, but for what, I'll get to that later.

Now, I'm not saying SSE was bad (and it was good in its ways). But some things in it were quite off and I'm just saying about what could make another Smash Bros. adventure mode better. You've got to consider that not everything Nintendo has done is 100% perfect/god-like and that there's always room for improvement. And that's when you should try to think about it.

These are just the basics for now, I'll get more specific about these in subsequent posts here.

So you're saying that you mostly want the Subspace to be more focused on Nintendo series rather than make its own stuff and just make the protagonists Nintendo? I'd say I like the fact that it's making its own content. SSB series isn't just a combination of other Nintendo series, it is its own series.

Please give me internets! So much less bulkier than those eggs.

Stop and think. If it's its own series, then why not remove everything Nintendo-related in it? Is that what you want? Then it won't even be Smash Bros. anymore. Way to completely defeat the purpose and miss the point of it. It's supposed to be a get-together of various Nintendo series.

It can have a few elements of its own thrown in (Master Hand and Crazy Hand are all there needs to be), but if they detract too much from what SSB stands for, it gets awkward. Do you really think that there's no room for improvement in anything? If you want Smash Bros. 4 to be just a carbon copy of Brawl, then why bother wanting it?

Alright, here's how the villain hierarchy could be:

As it first unfolds, we'd first witness the likes of Bowser and his Koopa Troop milling about and causing trouble all over. And sometime later, we'd see him teaming up with King K. Rool. The two of them would merge their Koopa Troop and Kremling Krew into one army and make for kick-arse double trouble all over the Nintendo World right there.

As it goes on further, we'd see that Space Pirates under Ridley and Dark Samus are getting in everyone's way, even going after Bowser and K. Rool and also using their Phazon to corrupt everything around. And sometime, the Koopalings would make their appearance, but following Bowser Jr. and going on as a league of their own away from Bowser.

And then of course, there would be Ganondorf. He'd have his own army, but maybe he'd follow along with Medusa and her Underworld Army.

Other leagues of their own would include Wario and Waluigi, prancing around on their own and ambushing any heroes they may encounter. And King Dedede too, whatever stuff he may be up to on his own.

May expand upon this later...

Understand this: the single-player modes of Smash will always be designed as a side bonus to the multiplayer.  It's a multiplayer game with a single-player story mode added on, not the other way around.

Besides, the type of things you're trying to add would violate the no-dialogue layout that Sakurai demanded, which frankly was perhaps the best idea in Brawl.

...When did I ever say that it would have dialogue? The cutscenes would follow the same flow without any, just using more of what Nintendo has to offer in the story in lieu of the Subspace stuff. And from the looks of it in Brawl, it seems a lot of time and effort was invested in the adventure mode.

Now if you've also thought of something that could improve it or be added onto it next time, how about you try to put it out here instead of pulling a Sonic fanbase about it?

How exactly would you add all of these extra NPCs and plot points without dialogue?

Well, just them doing their junk to help out in certain points without any, plain and simple (and being extra emphasized in the cutscenes, even if they are minimal; Palutena was a fine example of it. Could have had more than her, but noooooooooooo)? NPC doesn't always mean animated signpost, you know.

May be just me, but you seem to be harboring this "EVERYTHING IS 120% PERFECT AND IMPROVEMENT AND/OR ADDING STUFF SUXXX" mentality.

Ah, on another note, there could even be straight-up mini-boss characters. For example, some of the villainous F-Zero racers [mainly] to show that F-Zero is more than Captain Falcon. (But do people even get that? Disappointingly and stupidly, no. Heck, that also reminds me of how much I want an F-Zero Capcom-style fighting game)

Here's my idea on a better story. TRY to imagine it in Brawl graphics, as some characters (Ballyhoo and Big Top, for example) have not gained Brawl graphics.

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, along with many Mario NPCs (Koopas, Toads, Monty Moles, with other main characters like Daisy and Birdo) are all enjoying the Star Carnival from Mario Party 8. Ballyhoo makes an announcment (imagine it with no dialouge) that a somewhat small, non-harmful meteorite was seen headed towards the Great Sea. Camera Lakitus filmed the action, which appeared on the big screens at the carnival. Link (Toon, TP Link later ;)) was buying a Hyoi Pear from from Beedle on Outset Island when he heard a boom. The residents of Outset were shocked, all outside their houses, except for Aryll, who was told to stay inside by her worrywart grandmother. Link saw smoke coming from Fairy Woods, so he went up to investigate. He was examining the strange rock when suddenly, Pokey arrived in the helicopter. As a villian, a boss fight is entered. After the fight, Link is triumphant and Pokey flies away in his helicopter. Then Prof. Layton and Luke, who boated there recently to investigate, took care of the examinations. Outset Island was then evacuated for safety. Prof. Layton was explaining to a police (Mother) what he found when the meteorite exploded, with the explosion forming into Giygas! The reason Pokey ever went to Outset was so he can revive Giygas! Outset was cleaned of civilians so no one was hurt or killed. Giygas then consumed all of Outset Island, and replaced with his enemy base, with Pigmasks making Chimeras right away. Giygas rested in a chamber like the one in Earthbound. The visitors at the Star Carnival were shocked. Suddenly, Bowser and his minions attack the carnival, resulting in the player going through the level as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi. After defeating many Dry Bones, Boos, and Koopatrols, the gang finds Bowser creating pits of lava. A boss fight occurs, and as a result of being defeated, Bowser falls into a lava pit and turns into Dry Bowser. He flies away in his Koopa Klown Kar.

To be continued...

And BooDestroyer, would you mind being a bit more respectful to other members? NIWA is supposed to be a site where people are respectful, unlike YouTube where there's yelling willy-nilly all over the place and spam...

Would other members mind being a little more intelligent and/or understandable first? :P Was hoping this place wouldn't be so much like GameFAQs, Smashboards, or MarioWiki's forum.

Ah, and not a bad go at a story. Even if there isn't any dialogue, visual cues can get the job done just as well.

Who's being unintelligent? Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion and their own method of posting. In comparison with GameFAQs, I think this forum is a much more pleasant place to be. The absence of trolls is quite nice, as is the respect that the people here give one another.

Alright, fair enough. I've had my "fun" for a bit, but I hear you on that one.

Meanwhile, in Green Greens, Kirby was about to eat his cake. It was stolen by the Squeak Squad, requiring the player to go through a level designed just like the original Green Greens from Kirby's Adventure. Beating the level results in a boss fight with the Squeak Squad. After their defeat, Kirby gobbles his cake. He then spots Dyna Blade fighting a Dragon Chimera (I'm making up Chimeras, but SSB is non-canon anyways, so watever). They then fly to City Trial. Kirby then chases after them. Mario and gang then leave the Star Carnival and head to Blooper Bay. There, they meet the evacuated people from Outset. They see Giygas's lair in the distance. An enraged Gooper Blooper pops out of the sea. This results in yet another boss fight. The then defeated blooper, with its last breath, flung the heroes (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Layton, Luke, and Toon Link) away. They weren't flung far, however. They were flung into the ocean, when suddenly, K. Rool's ship appeared and took them in. Rool apparently was against Giygas, so he needed help. He sailed them to Hyrule's coast. Meanwhile, Kirby was at City Trial when both Dyna andthe Chimera spotted him. The Chimera flew towards Kirby, only for Dyna Blade to swoop in and take Kirby. The Chimera got injured after crashing, and exploded. Dyna Blade landed on the Halberd, so Meta Knight reveals he ALSO is agianst Giygas. The Halberd is above Death Mountain when the ship malfunctions from a Ditto who was hiding in the engine. The Halberd explodes just as the gang flies off. King K. Rool and his "shipmates" spot the explosion and go there. Also, the Ditto us Star KOd.

Now can someone else add more to it? I'm too lazy...

Maybe you should make your own thread! Sounds like a very interesting story that deserves a thread of its own.

Thanks! I'm just too lazy to quote all of that...quotes from a different topic take longer than same thread quotes. WAAAY longer if they're long posts like mine. Guess I'll start my own thread during Christmas Break so I have free time! XD

Something like this:

With several of Nintendo's characters put together in the same setting, why would you prefer the former over the latter?

I was hoping they would use Nintendo characters too.

For what it's worth, hacked data indicated a bunch of enemies that were planned, including Waddle Dees, Waddle Doos, Gordos, and even Dry Bones (like more Mario enemies were needed...)

Did those three have any enemy type structure worked in though? Wondering around doesn't count, but stuff like attack patterns and health bars.
