Xenoblade Chronicles X is the sixth installment in Monolith Soft's Xeno franchise, developed for the Wii U, and a spiritual successor to the previous game, Xenoblade Chronicles, making it the second original installment in Monolith's Xenoblade Chronicles series. Originally unveiled under the working title of "X", the game was originally planned to be released in 2014 but was pushed back.

In North America, a "Special Edition" version of the game was released, which in addition to the game comes with a double-sided art card, art book, and a custom USB drive with ten songs from the game. In Europe, the special edition version comes with the game (in a Steelbook case) and artbook, but also a poster and a physical map of the game world. Europe, Australia, and Japan would also receive console bundles, though the Japanese bundle comes with several special items, including the artbook, map, and a 1000 yen Nintendo eShop card.

X Marks the Spot

The next massive sci-fi role-playing game from Monolith Soft, the creators of Baten Kaitos and Xenoblade Chronicles, comes exclusively to Wii U. A terrible intergalactic war leaves just a handful of Earth survivors trying to live in a beautiful yet hostile environment. Players engage in battles against powerful creatures of all forms and sizes using the deep battle system that builds on the triumphs of Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii.

FEATURES:

  • Riding and controlling a weaponized mech, players can explore every inch of the massive open world displayed in gorgeous high-definition graphics. The world is filled with strange and imaginative creatures, from small bugs to giant dinosaurs.
  • As characters improve in different classes, they will learn new combat and defensive skills, or Arts. Players can customize the Arts palette as their characters learn new Arts. All Arts have a “recast" time – once cast, the player must wait out a “cooldown" period before that Art can be used again.
  • Players can customize everything about the main character's appearance, including gender, shapes, height, skin color, voice and tattoos.

Story

In the year 2054, Earth has been destroyed after being caught in a war between two alien races. Humanity evacuates the planet in the form of massive ships carrying them through space, one taking off from every major city on the planet. Two years later, one of the two alien forces catches up to one of the evacuee ships, the White Whale which departed from Los Angeles, and attacks. The ship is heavily damaged and crash-lands on the planet Mira, breaking apart as it enters the atmosphere.

The player is awakened from stasis by a woman named Elma, who takes them back to the human colony of New Los Angeles. Now, working for the organization BLADE, the player must work to defend the colony of New Los Angeles from threats while also searching for the missing Lifehold.

Gameplay

Xenoblade Chronicles X features similar gameplay to the original title, with a greater emphasis placed on exploring the world, which is entirely open. The objective of exploring each area is to find stasis capsules which have landed all over the planet and recover them. Players can travel on foot or in massive robots called Skells, which can fly and transform into other vehicles.

Using the Wii U GamePad, player can access information on the native life forms that has been collected, view the map, warp to previously visited locations, or play using Off-TV Play.
