Bandai Namco Entertainment is a multinational video game publisher, founded in 2006 after the merger of Namco and Bandai. It is the owner of a number of classic arcade properties and has been a frequent collaborator with Nintendo, most notably as the main developer of the recent Super Smash Bros. series.
History
Hierarchy
The main Bandai Namco development staff is split into a few major studios. The majority of traditional game franchises are from Bandai Namco Studios. Most of their arcade development including the Taiko no Tatsuijin series is developed by Bandai Namco Amusement Lab. Bandai Namco have formed a joint agreement with ILCA to form Bandai Namco Aces, which will handle future Ace Combat titles. They were also the original owners of Monolith Soft. The Bandai side, which deals with licensed properties, largely operates separately from Bandai Namco Studios. Their main development studio, B. B. Studio, was formed by merging BEC and Banpresoft, while they turned the Banpresto brand into the toy management part of the company. Bandai Namco Studios has some outsourcing studios across South and East Asia including Malaysia and Singapore.
Bandai Namco Studios itself in structured into various studios. Studio 1 seems to be the main Tekken team. Studio 3 is in charge of most of their role-playing including Tales, Blue Protocol and Idolm@ster. Studio 2 and Studio S were specifically set up as studios for contract mainly for Nintendo. Studio 2 works on the Mario Kart games and Studio S works on Super Smash Bros. games.
