Metroid Dread is an upcoming main-series Metroid game for Nintendo Switch. It was revealed at E3 2021.[1]

It shares the same name as the prototype Nintendo DS game. Since then Eurogamer has confirmed in an interview with Yoshio Sakamoto that this indeed effectively a continuation of the prototype, of which "graphical power, hardware capability" and the involvement of MercurySteam as a contributor (previously from Metroid: Samus Returns) have played a role in its revival.[2]

Development

This game was Metroid Dread (prototype), but since then the Nintendo Switch has come out, direction/planning/conception has changed, with the concept being more fleshed out, and MercurySteam have contributed (previously they had no connection with Metroid Dread).

Officially Yoshio Sakamoto/Nintendo have treated it like the same game.[3]
