Pokémon GO Plus is a peripheral device developed and manufactured by Nintendo for use with Pokémon GO. Originally planned to be released at the end of July 2016, the release was pushed back to September.[1]

Functionality

Pokémon GO Plus connects to a player's mobile device over a Bluetooth signal. The device uses an LED and vibration technology to alert the player to in-game events; it will flash when a Pokémon is nearby, and will flash and vibrate when a PokéStop is near[3]. Pokémon GO Plus can also be used in the game itself; by pressing the LED as a button when a Pokémon is nearby, the player can attempt to catch the Pokémon if it is one they have caught before; the device will flash and vibrate if the catch is successful.[3] The player can also press the button near a Pokéstop to see the items.[3]

On iOS, Pokémon GO Plus can be used with iPhone 5-6/6s Plus devices with iOS versions 8-9 installed. On Android, it is compatible with devices that have at least 2 GB of RAM, have Android versions 4.4-6.0 installed, and have Bluetooth Smart.[3]

The user can wear this device either by clipping it onto clothing, or by putting it on the wristband (PMC-002). In Japan, a Pokémon Go Plus Ring Accessory (PMC-003) was released in July 2017, which allows the user to wear the device as a ring.[4]
