Crystalis is a game for Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicom) and Game Boy Color. This game was developed by SNK, and originally released on April 1990.[1][2]

On June 26, 2000, Nintendo Software Technology worked on converting the game to the Game Boy Color, with some significant changes including to the story and opening sequence, and characters used in the game are copyright 2000 Nintendo, according to the game's box art. In this version, characters copyright Nintendo also appear.[3] This version was released exclusively to North America, until the Nintendo Switch Online re-release on December 12, 2019.[4] While North America, Europe and Australia received this title for Nintendo Switch Online for the same date, Japan didn't receive it until February 19, 2020.

The NES version of Crystalis is also available in SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows (Steam).[5][6][7][8]

Plot

The game is themed upon a post-apocalyptic existence, where after the world is threatened by a thermonuclear war filled with fierce creatures, and science and technology is left behind for magic.[9][10][11]

This war is known as the Great War, and there was peace for generations until an evil wizard known as Dragonia blended science with magic. The player is one of two warriors/magicians destined to save mankind.
