Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis is a group project of various multilingual, independent Pokémon wikis. It was formed as part of an alliance between Bulbapedia, an English wiki, and PokéWiki, an German wiki, and expanded to include other independent wikis in different languages.

The name, Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, translates to Encyclopedias of Pokémon in Latin.

History

After the English Bulbapedia was founded in 2005, another wiki, the German PokéWiki, approached Bulbapedia for an affiliation deal. Bulbapedia agreed for the affiliation, and the foundation of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis was born. The wikis remained relatively dormant in their language deals for months until Pokémon Wiki, a Japanese wiki, joined the alliance on June 26, 2006. Next year saw the addition of Polish Wikinezka, French Poképédia, and Portuguese LANDpedia, followed by Spanish wiki Pokéteca in 2009, Italian wiki Pokémon Central Wiki in 2010, and Chinese 52Poké Wiki in 2013. WikiDex soon displaced Pokéteca in 2018 after the latter was declared defunct in 2013.

In 2010, Zelda Wiki approached Bulbapedia for an affiliation deal. Originally considered as an expansion of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis, the two wikis, alongside Super Mario Wiki, would create a new organization based off the Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis idea. This basis would be the creation of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. Pokémon Central Wiki also partnered up with Super Mario Wiki (Italian) to form the Italian branch of NIWA, the Network italiano wiki indipendenti Nintendo.
