Gameplay

The main feature of the game is the titular Nintendo Land, a theme park with attractions based on Nintendo games and franchises. From the plaza, players can walk around and choose to play one of the attractions, or view comments on Miiverse from around the world by approaching visiting Miis. Players can also choose to simply play one of the games from a menu.

Nintendo Land features a total of twelve attractions, which are divided into three categories: single player, competitive multiplayer, and cooperative multiplayer. They are as follows:

  • Takamaru's Ninja Castle – Based upon The Mysterious Murasame Castle, a solo game in which players hold the Wii U GamePad vertically, flinging ninja stars on the GamePad screen toward enemies on the TV screen to earn a high score.
  • Luigi's Ghost Mansion – Based upon Luigi's Mansion, up to four players with Wii Remotes must find the solo player controlling a ghost using the Wii U GamePad as they travel around trying to scare each of the other players.
  • Captain Falcon's Twister Race – Based upon the F-Zero series, the player holds the Wii U GamePad vertically, tilting the controller to steer the machine and navigate the race course.

  • Mario Chase – Based upon the Super Mario series, one player on the Wii U GamePad as Mario must avoid up to four other players as Toads using Wii Remotes as they chase after the one player.

Playing attractions earns the player coins, which can be used to play a pachinko game. In this game, the player must drop coins in each blue space to clear stages and win a prizes, which consist of Nintendo-based decorations that are added to the plaza.
