The Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter is an accessory for the Wii U that allows for players to use Nintendo GameCube Controllers with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the only compatible software. It was released on November 21, 2014, alongside the game and a special edition Super Smash Bros. Nintendo GameCube Controller. The device was also released in a bundle featuring the game and controller.
Features and functionality
The Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter connects to the console using two USB cables, the black plug providing general power and the gray one providing the rumble feature (meaning that only the black connector and therefore one USB port are required to use the adapter)[1]. The cables can also be pulled apart to increase the distance the two cables can reach.[1] On the front of the device are four controller ports. While primarily meant to be used with standard Nintendo GameCube Controllers, the adapter supports all of the original system's controllers, including the Wavebird Wireless Controller and the DK Bongos.
