Hm... For the section that only Administrators can edit, why not split that off on to a template and protect that page? You don't run the risk of perhaps missing a change that a user can make, and it will keep users out of trouble as they cannot edit the list and stuff. Most of our Search index is built through the work of software known as crawlers. These automatically visit publicly accessible webpages and follow links on those pages, much like you would if you were browsing content on the web. They go from page to page and store information about what they find on these pages and other publicly-accessible content in Google's Search index.

I think that for the user pages we should do it together, because our wikis userspace policies differ. --{{SUBST:nosubst|User:Tucayo/sig}} 18:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

:Look, for now, this wiki is private. The only ones who know about it are us, the NIWA staff. We may not all be admins, but I think we're trustworthy enough to let be. Can we please leave things unprotected? Nothing annoys me more than running into protected pages which I can't fix. We can easily keep a list of pages to protect before we go public, and then when it's time, we just have all of them protected. That way, people like me can still fix stuff up while we're getting stuff started.{{:User:Neo/sig}} 21:37, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

::I like SMB's suggestion, it's less about editing a general page, and more about keeping control over the work done. As Tuc says there's some differences in policies among the wikis. So there should be a new thread at NIWA before finalizing it. I don't see the harm in say Policy A's page being created, thread started for discussion, then when it's been agreed upon, move it to the completed segment. I think we're still waiting on volunteers to begin, at least I am. [[User:Axiomist|Axiomist]] 22:06, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Everyone should contribute to that thread so that we can for sure get this ironed out.  My latest post tries to summarize what has been discussed, but I may have missed some things. Please add your voice to this thread!

Look, for now, this wiki is private. That way, people like me can still fix stuff up while we're getting stuff started.Justin(Talk) 21:37, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
I like SMB's suggestion, it's less about editing a general page, and more about keeping control over the work done. Axiomist 22:06, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Everyone should contribute to that thread so that we can for sure get this ironed out. My latest post tries to summarize what has been discussed, but I may have missed some things. Please add your voice to this thread! Dkpat (talk) 16:50, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
