GiFTPiA is a Nintendo GameCube title developed by skip Ltd. and released by Nintendo exclusively in Japan in April 2003. Despite being showcased at E3 in both 2002 and 2003[1], the game was never released in English, as it was deemed to be too strange for western audiences.[2]

Story

GiFTPiA follows Pockle, a boy on Nanashi Island who is about to celebrate his coming of age ceremony. However, on the day of the event, he oversleeps and misses it. Mayer, the mayor of the island, is furious and places Pockle under arrest, fining him five million Mane to pay back the cost of the ceremony. Thus, Pockle must work in order to obtain enough money to pay back the mayor.

Gameplay

In order to repay the debt, the player must complete various tasks in order to obtain Mane. While at firs the player can only take on menial tasks, such as collecting trash or fruit, fishing, or repairing signs, the player will eventually be able to travel to an island to fulfill others' wishes. At the beginning of the game, the player has various restrictions placed upon them: Pockle has a ball and chain attached to his leg, an early curfew has been set in place for him, his head is pixelated on the screen, and a police robot named Mappo follows him around.

If the player heads out after curfew, ghosts will chase Pockle, and if he doesn't make it back in time he will be forced asleep, making him susceptible to theft. In addition, the player must also maintain Pockle's well-being by feeding him, or else he will die of starvation.
