Pikachu is the mascot of the Pokémon series.
Role as Pokémon mascot
Pikachu, along with many other Pokémon were designed by Ken Sugimori. The mascot for Pokémon was going to be Clefairy, but due to the popularity of Ash Ketchum's Pikachu in the Pokémon anime, Pikachu became the official mascot. It appeared in almost every Pokémon merchandise and advertisement. It is one of the characters that appeared in all four Super Smash Bros. games. It was the first Nintendo character to appear in Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
