HuC-1 is an officially licensed Game Boy mapper chip and memory bank controller by Nintendo partner Hudson. There is more than one HuC in the series (HuC-3 is another).

New to the chip is infrared functionality in games that were released before the Game Boy Color (the monochrome Game Boys did not include an infrared port). This feature may be officially distinguished as GB Kiss.

Curiously, there may be exceptions (games released after the Game Boy Color may still include the mapper). This seems to be the case with the Japanese version of Pokémon Trading Card Game, which was released on December 18, 1998 but the Game Boy Color was launched in Japan on October 21, 1998.
