The Kirby series of games is one of the few long running Nintendo game series, debuting on the Game Boy and making its home console debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Kirby games are generally developed by HAL Laboratory, but are always published by Nintendo exclusively for their home console and portable gaming systems. The games star the titular character Kirby, a round pink with the trademark ability of being able to inhale enemies and copy their powers.

Main series
The Kirby series began in 1992, with the release of Kirby's Dream Land. Core games in the Kirby series are 2D platforming games, in which the character can fly indefinitely as well as inhale enemies and either spit them out or swallow them to obtain a Copy Ability, allowing Kirby to use that enemy's powers. Kirby's Adventure, the second title in the series, was the first to feature Copy Abilities. Many following games have since added their own unique features and abilities.
