Story

In the game's story mode, the player character is a member of the Highlander tribe, who is sent by the chief from his homeland to Etria to investigate a series of mysterious earthquakes that have recently been occurring in the area. After becoming registered as an adventurer, the Highlander is sent by the Radha to the Gladsheim ruins, believing that the earthquakes may be connected to it. Inside of the ruins, the Highlander discovers and awakens a sleeping girl inside of a capsule. After battling a monster that has invaded the ruins, the girl, named Frederica, reveals that she does not remember anything before being awakened. It is now up to the Highlander and his companions to discover the secrets of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth and its connection to both Galdsheim and the mysterious girl.

Gameplay

Etrian Odyssey Untold is a graphical and gameplay update to the original game, keeping the same content and structure as the original while based on the updates made in Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan. At the beginning, the player can set various options, which are based on the ones in Etrian Odyssey IV, including the difficulty settings, all of which can be changed at any time. Unlike Etrian Odyssey IV, while the entire soundtrack has been rearranged with orchestrated music, the original FM soundtrack is still available.

The most prominent addition to the game is the Story mode, in addition to the original gameplay, which can be played by selecting Classic mode. While the basic gameplay of the original game is still intact, Story mode expands upon the story of the original game, using a preset party instead of allowing the player to create their own party. Another new addition to the gameplay is the Grimoire Stone system; when a Grimoire Chance shows up during battles, the player has the chance to earn a Grimoire Stone, which can be used to either power up the player's existing skills or give them new skills (either from other characters or classes or enemy skills).
