Sound Fantasy was a cancelled music game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System announced in 1993. It is a continuation of Toshio Iwai's earlier Music Insects interactive art project.

This game would have supported the SNES Mouse. Conceived by Toshio Iwai and Gunpei Yokoi, it was formally known as Sound Factory. The creative elements in this game are also similar to the previously released Mario Paint, another SNES game from the early 1990s.

The concept was later reworked into a 1996 Windows game known as SimTunes. Toshio Iwai is also the creator the Nintendo DS game Electroplankton, released on April 7, 2005. Like Sound Fantasy, it is an experimental music game.

On April 7, 2015 a Nintendo Shoshinkai 1993 Sound Factory build was dumped by an anonymous user, which was released online by the Nintendo preservationist/data-miner/researcher LuigiBlood.

Gameplay

There are four minigames, Pix Quartet, Beat Hopper, Ice Sweeper and Star Fly each with unique musical gameplay elements. In particular, Beat Hopper plays similar to Q-bert and Ice Sweeper similar to block breaker games.
