The Philips CD-i is a discontinued video game system, and was the first to be CD-ROM-based.

In the early 1990s, Nintendo partnered with Sony to make a CD add-on for the Super Nintendo. It was called the PlayStation Experimental. Ultimately, Nintendo decided to abort the deal, and instead signed a deal with Sony's rival Philips. The CD-i was originally released in 1991; costing one-thousand dollars in the United States.
