Sin and Punishment, (罪と罰~地球の継承者 literally Sin and Punishment: Successor to the Earth) originally titled, Glass Soldier, is an on-rail shooter game for the Nintendo 64 developed by Treasure and Published by Nintendo. The game was first released in 2000 as a Japan exclusive, despite it originally having a release date outside Japan. (Probably due to the fact 2000 was towards the end of the Nintendo 64 lifespan). Sin and Punishment featured a combination of Japanese text and English Voice Acting during in-game, making it a more notable title on the platform. Because of high fan requests, along with the appearance of Saki Amamiya in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Sin and Punishment was released in North America via the Wii's Virtual Console function in September 2007, worth 1200 Wii Points, making it the highest priced Virtual Console title.
Story
In the year 2007, in present day Japan, a vast population growth had led to an unfortunate amount of food shortages. In an effort to solve the problem, scientists develop artificial life that can be eaten by humans. A large group of these organisms are left somewhere in Hokkaido Japan. However, over time, the organisms have adapted to attack humans, and since then, these violent creatures were referred to as "Ruffians". An international peace keeping organization from America named, the Armed Volunteers, were sent to destroy the Ruffians, but also have a dislike for the Japanese. Another force, the Relief Group, or Savior Group; lead by a woman named Achi (13 years old), supported by two other members, Airan Jo (15 years old), and Saki Amamiya (14 years old); set out to defeat the Ruffians and the Armed Volunteers.
The Savior Group find themselves trying to track down a woman named Katchua, who wants to assist Brad and the Armed Volunteers because her friend, Radan, had been transformed into a Ruffian. When Saki and the rest of the group find Kachua on the top of a building, they fight of Radan, and Kachua; who has strange psychokinetic powers. Saki knocks Kachua off the building, however, Saki happens to have Achi's blood in his body, and the group learns, because of this, Saki can transform in a Ruffian himself, as well as Kachua, who has the blood to test what kind of power it possesses. In the turn of the two turning into Ruffians, to city begins to flood with blood, and the two half-Ruffians begin to fight. When Kachua is killed, Saki is unable to turn back to a human. Airan and Achi use an abandoned ship to venture off and find Brad, and stop him from hurting Saki.
Achi and Airan discover an Armed Volunteer flagship, which is commanded by Brad, who is accompanied by his pet cat, Leda, who has been effected by the Ruffian attack. Airan begins to take control of the flagship, and defeat Brad twice. Airan then learns Achi's blood does have strange qualities, and can be used to effect other people. Using a platform, a part of the flagship, Airan and Achi discover a satellite in the sky that is planned to shoot Saki with a bomb, and kill him. The bomb is destroyed by Airan, and Saki is safe from harm.
Achi explains she wants turn Saki back into a human, however the way she carries this objective out, is to shoot Saki and rip open his Ruffian body. Airan disagrees, and as a ploy to get her to attack Saki, Achi uses her powers to show Airan a premonition of ten years into the future, where she is in a Long Island, New York subway. In this future, Airan discovers it is being a attacked by a destructive Saki. On the train Airan finds a young boy, who is later to be revealed as Isa Amamiya. Airan and Isa find a half-human Saki in the back car of the subway, and Airan promises to change the future she was shown, to where Saki isn't a destructive Ruffian, and Isa is the couple's son. Upon saying that, Airan comes back to reality, with Saki, with a ripped open chest.
In an attempt to ask why Achi is acting strangely, Achi reveals she turned Saki into a Ruffian, so he can learn to control his powers at will, which in turn will be used for an "inter-galactic war". Achi says her real enemies are "far, far away", and ultimately wants Saki to rule the universe with her. When Airan learns too much of the situation at hand, she was knocked into Saki's body, and wakes up on an unknown beach, somewhere in Japan. She finds a half-Ruffian Saki on the beach fighting of Ruffians. The two try to find shelter, and discuss the future and what to do about Saki's infections. She recommends to move to the United States. Airan then gets kidnapped by Achi, and Saki fights Ruffians through a woods to discover Achi with Airan. Using her psychokinetic powers, Achi is invincible to most attacks Saki throws at her, and Achi begins to carry out her plan, to create a copy of Planet Earth, and destroy the old one. Saki uses his powers to transform into a Ruffian at will, and destroy the Fake Earth.
After the Fake Earth is destroyed, Achi is no where to found, and Saki and Airan float down to the surface of Japan, which is completely wrecked, and the two move to the United States, and have their child, Isa Amamiya.
