The RAM protector is a computer and electronic memory/storage chip used in electrical Nintendo items such as video games.

It is usually used along with other parts such as (for the Game Boy) RAM, ROM, a cell battery (external RAM), proprietary chips from Nintendo (or a partner) like the Super FX chip for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
