Story
Like the other Metroid Prime games, Federation Force occurs between the events of Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus, though it does not occur at any specific point in the Metroid Prime timeline. A group of Federation Marines, known as the "Federation Force", are sent out on missions for the Galactic Federation, but eventually encounter the Space Pirates and discover that they are plotting something.
Gameplay
Gameplay is similar to past Metroid Prime titles. The game is a mission-based first-person shooter, in which up to four players can team up as Galactic Federation Marines inside of mechas. Before each mission, players are able to customize their mech with upgrades, and can set them up with various equipment and weapons to fill a certain role, similar to classic RPGs.
Also included is a multiplayer side mode called "Blast Ball", in which up to six players divided into two teams must shoot a ball into the opposing team's goal. Power-ups appear frequently to aid players that collect them, and the opposing team's goal shrinks every time the player's team scores a point.
