General Knowledge Training[1] is the first game in the General Knowledge Training series of Nintendo published games exclusive to Japan, succeeded by Minna no Joushiki Ryoku Televi.
Although General Knowledge Training is the official name outside of Japan, the game also tests the player's common sense, courtesy/social skills and critical thinking skills. This is because the word 常識 (joushiki), translated in this case as "General Knowledge" has multiple meanings in Japanese.
The full name of the game in Japan (similar to Brain Age series games) is very long; and is called Kanshuu Nippon Joushiki Ryoku Kentei Kyoukai: Imasara Hito ni wa Kikenai Otona no Joushiki Ryoku Training DS, but is also known as Otona no Joushiki Ryoku Training DS for short. This translates to Supervised by Japan Joushiki Test Association: Joushiki Training For Things People Currently in Japan Don't Understand.
Gameplay
The game tests the player on a number of problems under a time limit, and the player can track their progress. Categories for the tests include Courtesy, Society, Intelligence, Traffic, Art and Music. Before its termination, the game featured support for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for comparing the player's results with those of other players online.[2]
