Bulbapedia is a community-driven encyclopedia about the Pokémon series. Founded in 2004, and opened to the public in 2005, Bulbapedia is a sector of Bulbagarden, one of the two major Pokémon sites still in operation.
History
Bulbapedia began as an idea for a Pokémon wiki, in the style of Wikipedia, to be set up by the Pokémon community. Eventually, Bulbagarden took the initiative, with Zhen Lin establishing the wiki in December of 2004 and Bulbagarden second-in-command evkl assuming authority as its first Editor-in-Chief. Under evkl, the wiki grew from Bulbagarden's pet project to a large database of information, and he handed off control of the wiki to Zhen Lin in early 2006. Under Zhen, the wiki grew ever larger, and colors began to be added to more pages, something that Wikipedia had little of. Eventually, due to a lack of time and boredom with the Pokémon games, Zhen left the wiki under the control of TTEchidna, who proceeded to advance the wiki's style incredibly by introducing rounded corners to nearly every template, and finalizing the colors used by these templates.
Affiliation
Bulbapedia, through Bulbagarden, is affiliated with several Pokémon sites, such as Pokécharms and Filb.de. On its own, Bulbapedia is affiliated with seven other Pokémon wikis in a multitude of languages to make up Encyclopaediae Pokémonis, as well as with the current five members of NIWA.
