Hard Drop is a Tetris community intended for all Tetris players, regardless of skill or the version of Tetris played. It was founded by Blink. Hard Drop has an active forum as well as a 'world' section, where users can find information such as a list of Tetris teams by game.
The site boasts over 6500 members as of January 17, 2014. The community is involved in multiple Tetris tournaments such as the Classic World Championship and Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters.
Hard Drop has a Wiki called the Tetris Wiki, known in full as the Hard Drop Tetris Wiki with over 500 articles. The Wiki covers content such as information on Tetris games, terminology, strategy and Tetris curiosities.
History
The Tetris Wiki was originally hosted on Tetris Concept (.com) from March 2006, which was also a forum. It was founded by "caffeine", a competitive Tetris fan who wanted a place to 'unravel the mysteries of Tetris' after one of his favorite sites about Tetris strategy called Tetris Lovers went down. [1]
Caffeine announced the retirement of Tetris Concept in June 2009. [2] He explains that he thought it was time to 'move on' and this was related to real life influences at the time, including starting a new career and buying a new house. Caffeine did not want the Tetris Wiki to come to waste, so he had all of the original content copied on to a Tetris site on Wikia.
This announcement was not favored very well with the Tetris Concept community. After the forums were taken down, an unofficial reboot of Tetris Concept with all of the original content was hosted on tetrisconcept.net without caffeine's permission.
Later, "Blink", a member of Tetris Concept founded a new Tetris community called Hard Drop in June 2009, featuring a home page, its own unique forum and 'world', 'videos' and 'records' sections. Blink obtained permission from caffeine to use the original copy of the Tetris Concept Wiki. This meant that there were now three Tetris Wikis; the Wikia version, the unauthorized tetrisconcept.net version and the Hard Drop Tetris Wiki.
In late 2013, Hard Drop contacted NIWA inquiring whether the Hard Drop Tetris Wiki could become part of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. The Wiki was accepted and became a member of the alliance on January 17, 2014.
