Kirby's Return to Dream Land is a game in the Kirby that was introduced in 2011. The game reintroduces typical Kirby gameplay elements from games.
Story
Kirby, a Waddle Dee with a blue bandanna, King Dedede, and Meta Knight are shown in Pop Star in the opening cutscenes of the game, when a interdimensional rift appears in the sky and a large ship, the Lor Starcutter, passes into Dream Land, and rapidly disintegrates, losing five of its parts as well as 120 energy units called "Energy Spheres". Kirby, as well as the other characters, enter the intact hull and find the supposed owner of the ship, Magolor, who wishes that Kirby find the five missing components to the ship, now scattered all across Pop Star, as well as the Energy Spheres. Kirby agrees and goes out to find the five parts.
After the five parts are successfully collected, the Lor Starcutter is able to fly to Magolor's homeworld, Halcandra, and Magolor offers to take Kirby there. Kirby agrees, and they reach Halcandra, a volcanic planet in poor condition. The Lor Starcutter gets attacked by a four headed dragon called Landia, and crashes, but the Lor Starcutter is not damaged. Magolor then requests that Landia be defeated. Kirby agrees and goes on to defeat Landia.
When Landia is defeated, Landia drops a crown that will grant control of the universe. Magolor takes it, and reveals that his real intention is to take over the universe. Magolor proceeds to tell Kirby that his next target will be Pop Star, and Magolor transforms into a monster-like entity, and escapes into another dimension. The defeated Landia dragon (now four dragons) let Kirby and the rest of his crew chase him into the "Another Dimension" realm. Once there, Kirby must proceed to defeat the now evil Lor Starcutter, and later Magolor and then his soul. When Kirby defeats the final boss, Magolor disintegrates into the background, and Landia and the now good Lor Starcutter brings Kirby and the rest back to Pop Star, where they happily return to their normal lives.
Gameplay
The gameplay is typical of other Kirby games, with side scrolling levels divided into stages. The stages consists of several enemies, and occasionally a mid-boss. The last stage of the level is always a boss stage. Throughout the stages, Kirby will have to collect Energy Spheres, which will unlock various copy ability rooms, challenges, and sub-games in the Lor Starcutter. There is multiplayer support for the game, additional players can choose between a Waddle Dee with a blue bandanna, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, or with different coloured Kirbies.
