Mother is a role-playing game released for the Family Computer in 1989, and the first title in the EarthBound series. Despite being a Japan-exclusive release, the game was localized and primed for release by Nintendo of America, and would have been known as "Earth Bound" (note the space). However, because the NES was reaching the end of its lifespan, it was decided that the game would not be released. Only a few prototype cartridges of the localized game exist, though years later the ROM was leaked onto the Internet. The unreleased English version was later officially released for the first time on Wii U Virtual Console under the name EarthBound Beginnings during the week of E3 2015.

Story
