The Hajimari no Mori series revolves around the legends/stories pertaining to the Forest of Beginnings and Kuzunoki Village, branded under Famicom Bunko (Famicom Books), the player character (a young boy) and the mysterious girl he finds.[1]
It is a text-adventure series; such as the Shin Onigashima series (and parent Famicom Mukashi Banashi series) before it, specifically an interactive illustrated story with a span of different outcomes based on choice, but in this case, one conclusive (positive) end.
The original game Hajimari no Mori was released for Super Famicom specifically exclusively for Nintendo Power (cartridge service); a Japanese alternative to Game Boy Game Pak or Super Famicom Cassette distribution which was generally cheaper than buying a standard cassette; this and it offered rewriting, multiple games on one cassette (cartridge), and the manufacturer for this medium was Taiwan. Super Famicom Memory Cassettes were created (linked in with Marigul Management), and this is the only way of officially playing it on an original Super Famicom. The official rewriting service has since long ended.
A Game Boy Color port of Hajimari no Mori was in the works, but cancelled; known as Game Boy Bunko: Hajimari no Mori. The ROM image of it was leaked during the 2018-2020 Nintendo, Microsoft data breaches.
