WiKirby, sometimes abbreviated to WK, is a wiki dedicated primarily to the Kirby series. Its slogan reads, "It's a wiki. About Kirby!"
History
In early 2010, the idea of WiKirby began in talks between Bulbapedia founder Archaic, and staff members of Zelda Wiki and Super Mario Wiki, amongst the excitement of NIWA being founded. One of the NIWA members, Josh LeJeune (Axiomist) decided to start a Kirby Wiki and launched WiKirby on January 24, 2010. The wiki was publicized on March 4, 2010. WiKirby was the fourth member to join NIWA, on May 21, 2010.
Along the way, the staff of Kirby Wikia proposed merging with WiKirby during what NIWA members are referring to as "OasisGate". Wikia flexed their muscles of total control by changing some terms of service, and all Wikia skins to a less popular, less customizable, and less wiki-like skin, Oasis. The Oasis skin change caused several wiki communities to migrate to other wiki farms or independent hosting. WiKirby seemed to be one of the few wikis with the potential to have a merger with the Wikia counterpart. However, before all of the finer details could be worked out, a Kirby Wikia staff member informed WiKirby that they were canceling the merge. WiKirby and Kirby Wiki remain separate to this day.
WiKirby's founder, Josh LeJeune, passed away on March 18th, 2011. WiKirby strives on continuing his wish to make WiKirby the best and most comprehensive source of Kirby information.
From there onward, WiKirby's growth had slowed considerably for a time, until it gained a formal (and formerly independent) Discord server for the purposes of discussing edits and engaging in other community activities. In 2019, the then-lead-administrator Vellidragon went silent, prompting a formal election for the Editor-in-Chief position. Fubaka - who was at the time the largest contributor to the wiki and who had lead the Discord server into the merge - was elected to the position in September of that year, and shortly after, reformed the wiki's policy. In March 2020, Fubaka stepped down from the Editor-in-Chief position, and YoshiFlutterJump was elected to replace him.
As of 2019, WiKirby is growing slowly but steadily, adding new information on a daily basis. Some chunks of information on older titles is still missing, but new games and developments are kept up with as they come out, and missing information is being filled steadily.
