The Super Mario Wiki is a wiki composed of the franchises that mainly includes the Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario series. Ironically, it even includes the Conker, Banjo, and Super Smash Bros. due to the Importance Policy.
History
The wiki was started in August 2005 by AgentSeethro from Halopedia, who helped Stephen Shinn (under the nickname, Porplemontage) to start up the wiki. Formerly, there used to be plans for having wikis by separate major series under the Wiki Alliance; with DKWiki created, and the Yoshi and Wario wikis still in development. But due to the fact the users wanted to merge both wikis, DKWiki was merged after a year later, and the two other wikis were scrapped.
Additionally, the wiki used to be funded by donations, taken inspiration from Homestar Runner Wiki, but the lack of funds resulted in embedding Google ads from the left (and later the top, bottom, and even the left side) in order for the wiki to continue running. Recently, Stephen made Google ads appear only for guests who use the wiki only for reading info, instead of contributing.
