Mother 1+2 is a compilation of Game Boy Advance ports of Mother and Mother 2. Released in order to make more accessible the predecessors to the (at the time) upcoming Mother 3, the games feature the edits present in the English translations of the pair designed to make them more playable.

Like the original game and Mother 3, Mother 1+2 was never released outside of Japan.

Gameplay

Many of the features and gameplay elements of the ports are largely based on the English translations of the games, rather than the original Japanese releases. Such changes include free movement rather than grid-based movement in Mother. Most of the dialogue and option boxes as well as text have been altered to fit the screen resolution of the Game Boy Advance, and the controls have been altered to fit the button layout. By pressing L, R, and Select at any point, the player can put the game into sleep mode, and can exit the mode by pressing the buttons again.

Reception

Although this game compilation was never officially released in English, EarthBound Central published a fan translation.
