The Hajimari no Mori series revolves around the legends/stories pertaining to the Forest of Beginnings and Kuzunoki Village, branded under Famicom Bunko (Famicom Books), the player character (a young boy) and the mysterious girl he finds. It has never been released outside of Japan.[1]

It is a text-adventure series; like the Shin Onigashima series (and parent Famicom Mukashi Banashi series) before it, specifically an interactive illustrated story with a span of different outcomes based on choice, but in this case, one conclusive (positive) end.

The original game Hajimari no Mori was released for Super Famicom specifically exclusively for the Nintendo Power (cartridge service), however, it has since been rereleased for Wii and Wii U Virtual Console.

A Game Boy Color port of Hajimari no Mori was in the works, but cancelled; known as Game Boy Bunko: Hajimari no Mori. The ROM image of it was leaked in a lot check found during the 2018-2020 Nintendo, Microsoft data breaches.
