Story
Following the events of Mega Man 4, Proto Man leads an army of robots in a series of attacks across the world. On top of that, he also kidnaps Dr. Light. It is up to Mega Man to stop Proto Man and learn the truth behind these attacks.
Gameplay
Mega Man 5 uses the same structure as the previous titles, in which the player, as Mega Man, must clear each stage and defeat the eight bosses in order to reach the final stages of the game and obtaining each robot's weapon after they have been beaten. Mega Man's moveset from the previous games also remains intact, though the charge shot, introduced in Mega Man 4, has been updated to cover a wider area. In addition to weapons, Mega Man can also use his companion Rush's abilities after defeating certain robots. Hidden within each stage is a circuit board containing one of eight letters that together spell "MEGAMANV"; collecting all eight allows the player to use Beat, a robot bird that automatically attacks any enemy onscreen.
