The Shin Onigashima series is part of its parent Famicom Mukashi Banashi series; a series of text adventure games inspired by (Japanese) folk-tale. Shin Onigashima is inspired by the Japanese culture of the legendary peach boy "Momotarō", Princess Kaguya, and Onigashima; a legendary island where Oni are said to live.
The series has seen cameos, such as in the form of trophies/spirits/music tracks in the Super Smash Bros. series since Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Games
There are three games excluding re-releases (in the form of Famicom Mini, Wii Virtual Console, Wii U Virtual Console) in the series:
- Shin Onigashima (Famicom Disk System)
- BS Shin Onigashima (Super Famicom (Satellaview add-on))
- Heisei: Shin Onigashima (Super Famicom; improved and offline version of BS Shin Onigashima)
