The Nintendo GameCube (Japanese: ニンテンドーゲームキューブ), officially abbreviated GCN or NGC is Nintendo's sixth-generation home console. The console was released on September 14, 2001 in Japan, November 18, 2001 in North America, May 3, 2002 in Europe, and May 17, 2002 in Australia. It is a powerful system, with a compact design, four controller ports, a controller with an ergonomic design, small but large-capacity discs, a large game library, connectivity with the Game Boy Advance and a form of online play. The console's surface has three buttons on top: Open, Reset, and Power. In 2006, it was succeeded by Wii, which also features ports for most GameCube hardware as well as compatibility for its software. The system's lifespan ended in 2007. What's happening at Nintendo & NIWA January 5, 20201 - Nintendo has announced that it will be acquiring Next Level Games as a wholly owned subsidiary. October 1, 2020 - In a short downloadable fighter presentation for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Steve from the Minecraft series is revealed as an upcoming fighter, with Alex, a Zombie and an Enderman as alternative costumes. September 3, 2020 - In celebration of the Super Mario series' 35th anniversary, a commemorative Nintendo Direct was posted that announced promotional events, merchandise, and new games such as Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Super Mario Bros. 35, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. August 5, 2020 - Pikmin 3 Deluxe is announced. It is planned for October 30, 2020. July 14, 2020 - The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System toy is announced via Nintendo's YouTube channel.

Pokémon Gold Version (Japanese: ポケットモンスター金 Pocket Monsters Kin, literally Pocket Monsters Gold) and Pokémon Silver Version (Japanese: ポケットモンスター銀 Pocket Monsters Gin, literally Pocket Monsters Silver) were the fifth and sixth Pokémon games released, beginning the second generation of the Pokémon series.
