[Intro paragraph: work in progress]

General guidelines

In general, when editing on NintendoWiki, users should make sure that the article:

  • Appears professional and well-written, with complete sentences and free of spelling and grammar errors.
  • Presents content that is relevant to its topic of focus; any content that is not well-placed, or outside of the wiki's scope, or otherwise irrelevant to the subject, should be removed.
  • Is structured properly, with proper sections and templates and (if applicable) good image placement.

Creating an article

These are general guidelines that should be followed when creating a new article for the wiki:

  • Before creating the article, make sure that the subject matter falls within the wiki's scope of coverage.
  • At the beginning of the article, be sure to add the appropriate infobox and fill in the necessary information where applicable; for example, a video game would need {{game infobox}}, while a console would need {{console infobox}}.
  • Be sure to bold the first instance of the title in the article itself, and the first instance only (generally, it should be the very first words in the article).
  • Be sure to fill in as much of the article as you can, or at least fill in the basic layout of the article; do not create an article with only one or two lines of text just for the sake of creating the article or filling in a red link. For articles that have at least one or more sections that are not finished {{stub}} should be placed at the bottom of the article, below any navigation boxes but before the categories.

Sections and structure

Each type of article should use a different structure depending on the subject being covered; an article on a video game would be written differently than an article on a hardware peripheral.

Verb tense

As NintendoWiki covers all kinds of subject matter, one consistent verb tense cannot be enforced across the entire wiki. As such, these guidelines should give an idea of what tense should be used to describe what kind of subject matter.

  • In general, most content describing subjects such as video games, consoles, accessories, etc. should be written using the present tense.
  • When describing a subject that has yet to be released, the future tense should be used. This should be switched to the past tense whenever the subject has been released, as the date of its release is no longer to be and now has passed. This only applies when referring to its future release, however; any other content should be written in the present tense as normal.
  • Articles on people and events should be written in the past tense.
