Template:Service Infobox The Wii Shop Channel was the digital storefront for downloading digital content for the Wii console. The service launched worldwide alongside the hardware in November 2006. In 2012, the Wii Shop Channel service was succeeded by the Nintendo eShop for Wii U, which has since been implemented for the Nintendo Switch.

Due to shifting focus to the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS in late 2017, Nintendo announced that the Wii Shop Channel service was discontinued on January 30, 2019.[1][2] On March 26, 2018, for preparing for this, the ability to add Nintendo Points to a Wii Shop Channel account will be disabled. All of the services related to the shop, such as the Wii System Transfer Tool and the ability to redownload software, were disabled later in early 2019. [1] In Japan, Nintendo will refund any unspent Wii Points starting in February 2019.[3]

Upon starting the shop, the user is taken to a welcome screen, which shows a series of recommended titles and recent news, with the option to access the main menu at the bottom. From the main menu, the user can view Virtual Console titles, WiiWare titles, and Wii Channels, as well as add Wii Points to their account. From the "Account Activity" menu, the user can view all software they have downloaded. The "Titles You've Downloaded" menu allows users to view a list of downloaded software that can be redownloaded. Finally, on the "Settings and Features" menu, players can access number of settings such as entering the code for a Wii Download Ticket, linking a Club Nintendo account, adjusting gift settings, and deleting the Wii Shop Channel account.

Wii Points can be added to a user's account by selecting the "Add Wii Points" option on the main menu, or by selecting the current total displayed on the bottom of the screen. Points can be added either by redeeming a Nintendo Points Card, or by purchasing them directly from the shop using a credit card (either Visa or MasterCard) in increments of 1000, 2000, 3000, or 5000. A user's account cannot exceed 20,000 points at one time.[4] While Nintendo Points can be added to either a Nintendo DSi Shop or Wii Shop Channel balance, points cannot be swapped between the two shop accounts, and cannot be transferred to another system.
