The NES Remix series, known as Famicom Remix in Japan, is a compilation series of challenges based upon various Nintendo Entertainment System titles. Originally a pet project being developed by Koichi Hayashida while developing Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo later gave him permission to create the first game, and brought on indieszero to help complete it.
Koichi Hayashida created the games out of a desire to play older Nintendo games at work; since he did not play many of the games as a child he wanted to create this game in a way that allowed him to play all of the classic games, while the "minigame" format was due to his free time as an adult; since adults do not have as much free time Hayashida made the games in this way to allow players to experience some of the later scenes in each game without having to play through it to that point.
