BS Fire Emblem: Akaneia Senkihen is a tactical role-playing game in the Fire Emblem series. Consisting of four individual parts, the game was released in a weekly episodic format over the Satellaview broadcast service between September 28 and october 19, 1997, between 19:00 and 20:00 hours. The game was later rebroadcast twice: once between November 30 and December 21, 1997, between 18:00 and 19:00 hours; and again between April and May 1999.
Although the game has not been re-released since its original broadcasts, the four maps from Akaneia Senkihen were remade as bonus chapters for Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo: Hikari to Kage no Eiyū, currently making this the only Satellaview title to see any form of re-release.
Story
Akaneia Senkihen is a prequel to Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light and Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, largely set in the three-year interim during which Marth escapes from Altea to Talys, and largely focusing on the games' other characters. Episode one is set during the siege of the Archanean castle, and features a group of knights who must defend princess Nyna from capture and escort her to safety. The second episode stars Minerva, Hardin, and their forces as they battle a group of Macedonian deserters. Episode three features a group of thieves led by Rickard and Lena as they raid the Archanean castle and must battle a second group of thieves. Finally, the fourth episode is set two years later, in which Camus must defend princess Nyna from capture and ensure that she escapes to safety.
Gameplay
The game uses the same gameplay and engine as Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem. Unlike other games in the series, the objective for this title is to outlast waves of enemies for the one hour of play, earning points by visiting villages, opening treasure chests, and defeating enemies. Rather than recruiting units, additional units will join the player as they continue to play. Similar to other games, if the main character of the episode is killed, the player must restart from their progress by the most recent interlude; the player can also trigger this restart manually by pressing L, R, Start, and Select simultaneously.
When the hour is over, the player is given a password based on their score, which would be mailed to St.GIGA for contest purposes.
