Fire Emblem: Shin Monshō no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyū is a remake of the third game in the Fire Emblem series, the Super Famicom title Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, released in 2010 for Nintendo DS. Shin Monshō no Nazo retells the events of Book 2 of the original game, and follows up on the previous Nintendo DS remake, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Unlike the previous remake, this game was never released outside of Japan.
Gameplay
Gameplay is largely similar to Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Shin Monshō no Nazo allows players to create their own customizable Avatar as a playable unit and character within the game's story. In addition to being able to select difficulty, this version of the game introduces two distinct gameplay styles: Classic Mode, the series' standard gameplay, and Casual Mode, which, for the first time in the series, disables permanent death upon defeat; units that are defeated in battle instead retreat and are unusable for the duration of the battle.
