Dragon Quest Wiki is a former member of the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance. It is an independent wiki focusing on Square Enix's Dragon Quest series. The effort was to create a database of knowledge grew out of earlier efforts by Dragon Quest fans on the web; notably the Dragon Warrior Encyclopedia, Wikipedia's Wikiproject Dragon Quest, and other various Dragon Quest fansites.
History
Like many NIWA members, Dragon Quest Wiki started on Wikia. It was founded by Zenithian on November 20, 2007, with the title, Dragon Quest Dictionary~Encyclopedia. During this time, FlyingRagnar was involved in the project and was promoted to administrator in early 2010.
On October 16, 2010, the Wikia Dragon Quest Wiki, which had recently split from Wikia due to its recent management decisions, began the process of merging with Dragon Quest Dictionary~Encyclopedia. The name of the wiki was also changed to Dragon Quest Wiki.
In June 2011, Dragon Quest Wiki, alongside Kingdom Hearts Wiki and Chronopedia, became one of the founding members of the Square Enix Independent Wiki Alliance (SEIWA), a network of independent wikis based on Square Enix games and franchises.
On March 31, 2012, Dragon Quest Wiki joined NIWA as its twenty-first member.
Following inappropriate conduct on the part of Dragon Quest Wiki's new host, the wiki was expelled from NIWA in an unanimous vote; its wiki staff had also withdrawn from the alliance.[1] It became the first wiki to be expelled under the new expulsion policies implemented in 2021.
