A cancelled The Legend of Zelda prototype was in development by Retro Studios between 2005-2008, as part of the The Legend of Zelda series. The game was revealed after a former Retro Studios artist named Sammy Hall revealed concept art for the game. A Patreon page by Sammy Hall about this game has since been removed.[1]
Gameplay
The game was planned to have a dark theme, and was set in the "bad ending" part of the The Legend of Zelda timeline. It would have explained the origin of the Master Sword and featured Sheik as the main protagonist rather than Link. It featured some unique new characters and the return of the Great Deku Tree, a creature similar to the Windfish and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask's Clock Tower returning.[2]
