BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban (BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets) was a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past released for the Satellaview add-on for the Super Famicom. The game was originally released for download via satellite in four parts over the course of four weeks, from March 30 to April 20, 1997, and would later be rebroadcast in 1998.

Story

The game occurs six years after the events of A Link to the Past, after that incarnation of Link had defeated Ganon, returning peace to Hyrule and the Dark World to its proper state. Princess Zelda has been having dreams foretelling a coming evil. Both her and Aginah, the descendent of Sahasrahla, from A Link to the Past, investigate a bright light and find a mysterious character near the Eastern Palace. After they transport the person to Sahasrahla's hideout, Zelda states that she feels that the newcomer could be the "Hero of Light". After the hero wakes up, they must set out on a quest to defeat the monsters that have appeared in Hyrule while discovering the secret behind a set of stone tablets.

Gameplay

While the gameplay overall is identical to A Link to the Past, the game has a set time limit: because each broadcast is only one hour long, players have fifty minutes to clear out each section of the game, a clock being placed on the HUD that shows the current time. When the time is over the game automatically ends and all progress is saved to the BS-X cartridge. All items obtained in previous weeks carry over to the next, though if a player misses a week or joins at a later point in the game, they are given a giant bag filled with all the items they missed. A number of timed events also occur throughout the game.
