The Wii U (pronounced "we you") is an upcoming eighth generation video game console created by Nintendo, and it will be the successor to the Wii. It will be Nintendo's sixth major home console, and the system is expected to be released in 2012. It was unveiled during Nintendo's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 on the morning of June 7, 2011. The console has been described as belonging to a new eighth generation. The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to produce 1080p high-definition graphics, and features a new controller with an embedded touchscreen.

The console's controller has the same buttons as the Wii's controller, but with L and R buttons, and also with ZL and ZR buttons on the back. The controller has a rectangle tablet like shape, and has a 6 inch touchscreen in the middle. This is also used to stop playing a game on the Wii U, and then to switch over to the controller to play the game on that when the Wii U is not being used. However, you will still be able to play the Wii U with the normal Wii remote.
