The Balloon Fight series is a Nintendo series of games introduced in 1984, based on a reimagining of the 1982 arcade video game Joust.
The series usually features a nameless balloon fighter, who must burst the balloons of opposing balloon fighters to progress to the next stage. However, in Balloon Kid (1990) and its variations, it was spun-off as a full platforming game with a balloon floating mechanic.
The games are also notable for their "Balloon Trip" mode, in which the player must float in the air to travel the furthest possible, while avoiding the "sparks" which can electrocute the player or the fish that can eat the player if they are flying too low.
The series has largely remained dormant, although certain games (like those in the WarioWare series and Nintendo Land) have cameos or minigames that reference it.
