The New Nintendo 2DS XL is the sixth model within the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and the third New Nintendo 3DS system, to be released in July 2017. The system is meant to accompany the New Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS as a "third choice" at a price point between the two systems.[1]

Features

Like the original Nintendo 2DS, the New Nintendo 2DS XL does not play games in stereoscopic 3D. Unlike the original system, which uses a slate design, the New Nintendo 2DS uses the clamshell design of all other Nintendo 3DS family systems. The system uses the same larger screens featured on the New Nintendo 3DS XL (said to be 82% larger than the original Nintendo 2DS screen dimensions[3]). While the system is lighter and designed with a sleeker and slimmer appearance, it features the same upgraded hardware as the other New Nintendo 3DS systems, as well as the added shoulder buttons and c-stick.[1] The system features an NFC reader and writer built under its touch screen like the other models.[1]

Some features have been adjusted for this model. The HOME button has been moved underneath the d-pad, and the volume slider has been moved to the side of the system.[1] The rear cameras have also been moved to the back of the system, while the front camera has been placed on the hinge (similar to the Nintendo DSi).[2] The stereo speakers[4] are now located on the bottom of the system.[5] Finally, the notification LED has also been moved to the hinge.[5]

Games

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is compatible with all Nintendo 3DS titles, including New Nintendo 3DS-exclusive games. The system also retains backwards compatibility with Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi titles.[1]
