Eighting Co., Ltd. (Japanese: 株式会社エイティング Eitingu Kabushiki-gaisha, stylized as 8ing) is a Japanese game developer. Located in Shinagawa, they are largely known as a developer of licensed fighting games, and have worked alongside developers and publishers such as Nintendo, Capcom, and Bandai Namco.
According to the company, the name "Eighting" was derived from the Japanese proverb nanakorobi yaoki, referring to persevering in spite of failure, while "-ing" was added to symbolize "our desire to keep pushing forward to reach a big goal without stopping."[1]
History
Eighting was initially established in March of 1993 alongside partner company Raizing by former Compile staff to develop arcade titles; while Raizing developed the software, Eighting handled distribution and sales.[2]
In 2000, Raizing would be incorporated into Eighting.
In May of 2016, Eighting was acquired as a subsidiary by mobile and VR developer COLOPL.[3]
